My recent stay at Hippo Retreat & Tiger Fishing was a blend of lush landscapes and rustic charm, perfect for those seeking solace in nature. Nestled beside the Komati River, the view is undeniably captivating-crocodiles and hippos provide an unexpected wildlife show right outside your door. The cottage itself is basic but quite comfortable. It features a lovely outdoor dining area and a well-kept garden, making it ideal for quiet reflection or leisurely meals under the stars. While there were a few hiccups at check-in, like having to contact the owner for assistance, once inside, the cottage met our needs. Cleanliness was satisfactory, and the shared kitchen with cookware was handy. The family room's sitting area allowed for relaxation, though the two single beds pushed together might not suit everyone-keeping the duvets in place was a bit of a challenge. It's an affordable option considering the immersive experience. Although not opulent, the tranquil atmosphere, fishing opportunities, and pet-friendly policies make it worth your consideration. A longer stay is definitely on my agenda!
